They have extremely important pharmaceutical value. They play definite roles in sustaining life, regulating sexual function, promoting body development, immune regulation, treating skin diseases, and controlling fertility. Meanwhile, as a typical type of environmental endocrine disruptor, steroid hormones have strong endocrine-disrupting effects and pose great hazards to ecology and the environment. On December 27, 2019, steroid hormones were included in the list of drugs and other compounds prohibited from use in food-producing animals.
